Single Hop Rye Pale: Amarillo
As the months grow warmer in Charleston 2012, the Westbrooks made the wise decision to rotate their delicious, but heavy-duty, Vanilla Tree Dubbel off of year-round rotation. Crowd (and personal) favorite, and original special collection member, Citra Rye Pale Ale was destinted to take its place. Unfortunately, Citra is extremely scarce. What's a savvy brewer to do? Crank up a single-hop series of rye pale ales.
Second at bat is Amarillo, an American variety big on the fruit. The label notes it that it leans towards orange, but this writer's always gotten as much peach from the hop in other applications. Regardless, expectations are high.
