Mellow Mushroom (downtown)

The first Mellow Mushroom in Charleston was a pre-Pop-the-Cap beacon for craft beer, one of the few in the city at the time.  Here you were guaranteed a relative plethora of craft taps and bottles.  In many ways, they paved the way for the deluge of beer joints to follow.

Mellow has since expanded in the area, with operations in Mount Pleasant and West Ashley.  They've also in some ways been trumped by other craft-focused spots with more draft choices, longer bottle lists, and rarer selections.  Regardless, this location still deserves props for being an early craft beer supporter in the heart of downtown.  Their pizza ain't half bad either.
